This is the third April in a row that I have decided that no matter what that I will bicycle each and every day even if it means just a couple of miles. And just like the preceding two Aprils today was the day that, timing being what it is, I had to ride in the cold rain…at night.

Let me ask you: How committed are you to your commitments?

_______________

From Webster’s Dictionary: Definition of Commitment

2a :  an agreement or pledge to do something in the future a commitment to improve conditions at the prison; especially :  an engagement to assume a financial obligation at a future dateb :  something pledged the commitment of troops to the warc :  the state or an instance of being obligated or emotionally impelled a commitment to a cause

_______________

As I was riding my bike I flashed back to a person in Randal’s Kansas Real Estate School tell me as I was walking out the door after a long day saying I was “hard core” because I said I had to get my bike ride in.  My question is, “Am I really?”

I don’t set goals or make commitments lightly. Commitments are planned events.  If I make a commitment I do everything I can do to make sure I hit that commitment.  That promise.  Especially when that promise was made to me, my wife or my kids.

Now, I wish I could tell you I’ve kept every commitment I’ve made. I cannot.  Sometimes, often actually, I have failed.  But never because of a lack of trying. Stubbornness maybe. Ignorance occasionally. But never laziness and almost never because of fear.

Sure, riding a bicycle in the rain may not be the biggest obstacle you’ll have to overcome. But commitment to your commitments is a habit.  Just like breaking them. So I’ll ask you again.

How committed to your commitments are you?
