When I think about the legions of real estate agents that each night sit at the kitchen tables of America I constantly ponder to myself “Real estate needs leaders!” Or rather, MORE leaders.
Seriously, who knows more about the hopes & dreams, troubles & cares as well as the victories & failures of the people that make up our country? Realtors meet with all economic classes, races, religions and education levels. Realtors laugh with their customers and clients and sometimes cry, too. We have our fingers on the pulse of the nation.
So then why do so many real estate agents not move to a more public service? Oh, to be sure we have an army of Realtors out there that do good. Keller Williams Realty has its RED Day, Re/Max has its Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals and countless other agents and brokerages certainly do their part for kids, families and communities. However, when was the last time you heard of an agent running for state or national office? When real estate agents run it always tends to be more local like school boards or city councils. Not that those are not worthy aspirations.
After all, we all know that politics starts at the grass roots level. Changing our communities is how we change our country. If real estate needs leaders, then we also need those willing to step up and fill the void.
So real estate agents, I’d love to challenge you to think beyond yourself. Making a lot of money is a goal. Making a lot of money and giving away 15% of what you make to your church and charities is an even better goal. Adding to that service on a local Board of Directors or School Board or City Council or State Senate is even better. Who among you has even higher aspirations? Who among you is our leader?
